Agpeya is Faith Software's liturgical preservation program. It carries the canonical text and audio of the Agpeya — the Coptic Orthodox Church's Book of Hours — so that anyone, anywhere, can pray the hours the Church has prayed for centuries, from the phone already in their pocket.
It is 100% free. There's no paywall, no subscription, and no account you're forced to create before you can pray. It has passed 28,000 organic lifetime downloads on iOS alone, and it's now available on Android as well.
Who Agpeya serves
Agpeya serves Coptic Orthodox worshippers first: families who pray the hours together at home, servants preparing for liturgy, and believers living far from their home parish who want to keep the Church's rhythm of prayer wherever they are. For many, the printed Agpeya was the book their parents and grandparents prayed from. The app keeps that same book within reach.
It also serves anyone curious about historic liturgical prayer — Christians from other traditions who want to learn how the early Church ordered the day around prayer, and newcomers to Orthodoxy who are learning the hours for the first time and benefit from hearing them prayed aloud.
No sign-in is required, and the user base is anonymous by design. We don't need to know who you are for you to pray.
How the hours shape a day
The Agpeya orders a day — and a week — around fixed hours of prayer, each tied to a moment in the life of Christ. Each hour gathers psalms, a Gospel reading, and short litanies and prayers. Agpeya carries the full canonical text of all seven hours, with audio recordings for guided prayer. A worshipper might pray one hour or several, depending on the day:
Morning — the First Hour (Prime)
Begins the day remembering the Resurrection and offering the hours ahead to God.
Mid-morning to afternoon — the Third, Sixth, and Ninth Hours
Recall the descent of the Holy Spirit, the Crucifixion, and Christ's death on the Cross — short pauses in the middle of work and school.
Evening — the Eleventh and Twelfth Hours (Vespers and Compline)
Close the day with the taking down from the Cross and the burial of Christ, and prepare for rest.
Night — the Midnight Hour
Keeps watch in expectation of Christ's return, in the tradition of the wise virgins who kept their lamps lit.

Why we keep an ancient prayer book free
Faith Software builds technology that helps believers draw closer to God, and few practices have drawn believers closer, for longer, than praying the hours. The Agpeya isn't ours; it belongs to the Church. Our part is stewardship: keeping a faithful, canonical digital edition available, accurate, and free, so the only thing between a worshipper and the prayers is the decision to pray.
Preservation is a real part of that. A prayer book passed from generation to generation now also needs to live on the devices a new generation actually carries. Keeping Agpeya working across new phones and operating system updates is quiet, ongoing work — and it's the kind of work that disappears if nobody is committed to it.

How Agpeya stays free
Agpeya has never had a paywall or subscription, and it won't. It is sustained entirely by optional, voluntary gifts — from worshippers who use the in-app gift link, and from donors who give to Faith Software, Inc. on our Support page. Faith Software, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN 42-3505436), and every gift is reinvested in the ministry; we don't distribute profits to individuals.
Those gifts pay for app-store fees, hosting, and the engineering time it takes to keep both the iOS and Android editions current. When you give to support Agpeya, you are helping the next worshipper who opens it find the hours exactly where they left them.
